1) DVDTALK

As many of you know, I've been writing The Kleinman Report since 1995 (the "early days" of the Web). This past month I decided to add a new venture to the Kleinman family of web sites -DVDTalk.com. I started DVDTalk.com for many of the same reasons I started the Kleinman Report - because it was something I was looking for on the Internet and was frustrated I couldn't find. DVD Talk takes the same no nonsense view of DVDs that The Kleinman Report does of the Internet. We're always on top of great DVD deals and resources, so visit the new site, and be sure to sign up for the accompanying newsletter!

2) Strikingitrich.com - Profiles of Internet Success

Jaclyn Easton, a reporter for the LA Times and CBS News, and long time reader of The Kleinman Report, sent me a copy of her new book, Strikingitrich.com. This new book takes a look at 23 successful Internet companies, and what they've done to succeed on the net. It's a great window into what it takes to make a web business work. Jaclyn has been nice enough to donate 2 copies of Strikingitrich.com for us to give away! Enter our random drawing for a chance to win a copy of this great Internet book!

3) ONLY THE GNOME KNOWS

I subscribe to a great number of Internet newsletters. One of my absolute favorites for finding great things for my PC is Lockergnome. Written by PC Guru Chris Parillo, this daily update scours the Internet and always strikes gold. If you're on the lookout for great PC shareware, software, tips and tricks, give the Gnome a try.

4) A CLEAR VIEW OF YOUR STOCKS

To track my financial portfolio, I have traditionally used My.Yahoo.com, which does a great job of keeping me updated on my portfolio. This past week I came across a web site that takes portfolio tracking to the next level. Clear Station gives you more views into your portfolio than you could ever ask for, with trend graphs, price volumes, news, analyst ratings, and more. Clear Station is a gem when it comes to keeping track of your stocks, plus it's free to use - definitely worth bookmarking!

5) FREE IS A GOOD PRICE

One of the things that is great about the Internet is that there are so many opportunities to get something for free. This past week IdeaLab (the company that brought you CitySearch, E-Toys and Goto.com) launched Free-PC.com. This new site is offering over 10,000 free PC's and free Internet service. The catch here is that you'll be bombarded by advertising when you use the PC, but for someone who doesn't have a PC, this is a fantastic deal. If a Free PC doesn't interest you, another company, Versadisc, will send you a free DVD each month. Again, you'll have to endure some heavy advertising, but free is a good price!

6) LISTEN TO BOOKS ON YOUR PC

Listening to a book on tape is a great way to kill time on a long drive. Audible takes the concept one step further by bringing audio books to your PC. Now you can purchase and download some of the top best sellers and listen to them as you work or surf on your PC. The cost for PC audio books are often less than 1/2 the cost of the taped equivalent.

7) WHAT'S ON MY NIGHTSTAND - THE LAST HEROES

I was running through the airport a while ago and realized that I had forgotten to take the book I was reading with me to read on the plane. When I stopped by the airport news stand I was discouraged by the selection. Then I spotted The Last Heroes by Web Griffin. As you might have remembered I read Men in Blue by WEB a little while back, so I decided to give this one a try. The Last Heroes is a fantastic story about two WWII pilots caught up in the politics surrounding the building of the H bomb. The books is a fun read which at the end wraps up some of the sub plots, but leaves the main story to be completed in book 2 of this series.

8) WHAT'S IN MY DVD PLAYER - BLUES BROTHERS

This week, in honor of the launch of DVDTalk.com I thought I'd do what's in my DVD player rather than what I'm listening to:

Every once in a while a DVD reminds me why I LOVE DVDs. Blues Brothers did that for me this week. I've always been a fan of the movie, but had never experienced it like I did on DVD. The songs were amazing, crystal clear and even better than I remember them. One of the real treats is hearing a greatly extended version of John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom". In addition to the lengthening of the John Lee Hooker song, the DVD version features 18 additional minutes of footage not seen since the original Blues Brothers preview.

To round out this exceptional DVD, a one hour documentary of the Making of The Blues Brother reminisces over this musical classic. I highly recommend this movie, definitely one of my top 10 DVDs!
